Storm Bert is hitting Britain with extreme winter-like conditions‚ and weather experts say its gonna get worse. The Met Office has put out amber warnings (which means real danger to life) for several UK regions

Craig Snell from Met Office reports wind speeds of 68mph in south-west England and snow-fall reaching 13cm in some places; theres 12 flood alerts active too. The storm is making travel super-hard — especially in north-east England where snow-storms are creating white-out conditions

National Highways issued a high-level alert for Yorkshire: snow-fall will last up to 5 hours and its expected to pile up fast. In Scotland‚ areas above 200m might get 10-20cm of snow while higher spots could see double that amount

  • Dover-Calais ferries stopped till Monday
  • Train routes north of Preston cancelled
  • A628 and A66 roads blocked by snow
  • Perth Christmas lights event cancelled

Many train companies changed their schedules: TransPennine Express says dont go north of Carlisle‚ while South Western Rail is asking people to skip non-important trips west of Basingstoke. The stormʼs effects will last through weekend with Wales and South-West England getting hit by heavy rain — maybe 75mm in most places but over 100mm in hilly areas

CalMac ferries stopped most of its west Scotland routes‚ and DFDS cancelled many cross-channel trips. Weather experts say when warmer air comes in the melting snow will make roads extra-dangerous
