JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate, finds himself at the center of controversy as his past criticisms of the GOP resurface. The author of "Hillbilly Elegy" and U.S. Senator from Ohio once lambasted his own party for being "openly hostile to non-whites" and questioned its immigration policies.
In 2012, following Barack Obama's re-election, Vance penned a blog post titled "A Blueprint for the GOP." The essay, written during his time at Ohio State University, offered a scathing assessment of Republican policies. Vance argued that the party's approach to immigration, particularly the idea of deporting millions of undocumented immigrants, "fails to pass the laugh test."
Interestingly, Vance requested the deletion of this post in 2016 as he began to take a more active role in electoral politics. Despite its removal, the document remains accessible online, serving as a stark contrast to his current political stance.

However, the political landscape shifted dramatically with Donald Trump's 2016 victory. Trump's populist approach, which appealed to disgruntled white working-class voters, effectively rebuked the RNC's inclusive strategy.
Fast forward to 2024, and Vance has become one of the most vocal supporters of Trump's immigration policies, including mass deportation. He has faced criticism for repeating unverified claims about Haitian migrant workers in Ohio, which some view as inciting racial tensions.
Defending his changed stance, Vance cited recent events in Springfield as a catalyst for his shift in perspective. He criticized the media and Kamala Harris's campaign for allegedly dismissing local concerns and ignoring public health issues related to migration.
A spokesperson for Vance acknowledged the senator's evolving views, stating, "There is nothing noteworthy about the fact that, like millions of Americans, Senator Vance's views on certain issues have changed from when he was in his twenties."
