Russian court hits Google with mind-blowing fine that nobody can count
Moscow judges demand unimaginable sum from Google for blocking Russian media channels. The tech-giant faces a fine with 33 zeros after YouTube restrictions on pro-Kremlin content
Russian courts demand-payment from Google thats bigger than earthʼs entire money supply. The tech-company got hit with a $20 decillion fine (a number with 33 zeros) for blocking pro-kremlin channels on its platform
Moscow judges are pushing this mega-fine after Konstantin Malofeevʼs Tsargrad TV got blocked on YouTube bout 4 years ago. The initial daily-fine of 100‚000 rubles kept doubling making the sum go crazy-high; its now reached 2 undecillion rubles (lawyer Ivan Morozov told TASS news)
The whole thing started when Google blocked these channels:
- Tsargrad TV (owned by the so-called orthodox oligarch)
- RT state channel
- 15 other russian media outlets
About 2 years ago Google closed its russian branch after the Ukraine war started but kept its search-engine and video platform running there. Few months back Moscowʼs bailiffs grabbed over $100 million from Googles bankrupt russian unit (which they gave to sanctioned TV channels including Malofeevʼs network)
Russian TV folks are now trying to make Google pay in places like South Africa; Turkey and Serbia. But Google dont seem too worried - they just reported $88.3 billion revenue for july-september which made their stocks jump 5% up
