Royal Family Embraces Tech for Child Safety at Prestigious Horse Trials

The Burghley Horse Trials, a prestigious equestrian event held annually since 1961, recently saw the attendance of Zara and Mike Tindall along with their children. The royal couple demonstrated a modern approach to parenting by employing Apple AirTags to ensure their children's safety during the event.

At the trials, which took place on September 7, 2024, the Tindalls' eldest daughter, Mia, aged 10, was observed with an AirTag attached to her clothing. This small tracking device, introduced by Apple in April 2021, has gained popularity among parents seeking to monitor their children's whereabouts, especially those too young for mobile phones.

The family's presence at the event highlighted the blend of tradition and modernity within the royal circle. While Zara Tindall, an accomplished equestrian and Olympic silver medalist, participated in the cross-country phase, her family engaged in various activities around the grounds. Mia was seen photographing her father, while the younger siblings, Lena (6) and Lucas (3), played energetically nearby.

The Burghley Horse Trials, one of six annual CCI Five Star events worldwide, typically attracts over 160,000 visitors. It provides a comprehensive test of equestrian skills, including dressage, show jumping, and cross-country. The cross-country phase, known for its challenges, saw Zara Tindall competing on her horse, Class Affair. Despite a strong start, she experienced a fall near the course's end but fortunately emerged unharmed.

"Equestrian sports have been a significant part of my life, and competing at events like Burghley is always thrilling."

The event also saw the attendance of Peter Phillips, Zara's brother and the eldest grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by his girlfriend, Harriet Sperling. Their presence added to the family atmosphere of the occasion.

In a separate development, Zara Tindall has recently become the face of a collaboration between Musto and Fairfax & Favor, launching a collection of high-quality raincoats. This venture reflects the influence of her mother, Princess Anne, known for her own successful equestrian career and emphasis on practical, quality clothing.

The use of tracking devices for children, as demonstrated by the Tindalls, reflects a growing trend that has sparked discussions about balancing safety and privacy in modern parenting. As technology continues to evolve, its integration into family life, even within royal circles, becomes increasingly apparent.
