Kim Jong-un's new toy: North Korean leader pushes for drone mass production
North Korea moves to mass-produce kamikaze drones after successful testing while strengthening ties with Russia. Japanese and South Korean officials react to growing military partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang
On thursday Kim Jong-un showed up at North Koreas drone facility wearing a fancy white-suit to check out their new kamikaze drones (which hit all targets during testing). The leader of DPRK seemed pretty happy with what he saw at the UATC complex and told everyone to start making lots of these flying machines
The drones look a lot like those lancet-type ones that Russia uses in Ukraine; this isnt surprising since both countries signed some kind of defense deal just this week. About 11k North Korean soldiers are now sitting around in Kursk waiting to help Russia take back territory that Ukraine grabbed last summer
We must begin full-scale mass production immediately – the success of UAVs in modern conflicts is clear
This whole thing got Japans attention real quick: their foreign-minister Takeshi Iwaya went straight to Kyiv about a week ago to talk about how worried they are. Meanwhile Yoon Suk-yeol from South Korea is thinking about changing their no-weapons-to-warzones rule; he said earlier this month that helping Ukraine with weapons might be ok
The timing is interesting since Tokyo has been giving lots of money to Ukraine lately – its been one of their big-time supporters since last yr. All this military buddy-buddy stuff between Pyongyang and Moscow is making the whole neighborhood pretty nervous
