Jude Law Challenges Royal Etiquette in "Firebrand" Role

Jude Law, renowned for his versatile acting skills, has recently made headlines with his portrayal of Henry VIII in the film "Firebrand". The actor's comments about the British monarchy have sparked interest, as he expressed his reluctance to bow to royalty.

In a recent interview, Law stated, "I'm intrigued by their history, but I've never been a great believer in treating someone a certain way because they are born under a title." When questioned about his stance on monarchy, the London-born actor admitted uncertainty, saying, "I don't know that I am [a royalist]. And I don't know that I want to bow down to anyone, personally."

Law's portrayal of Henry VIII in "Firebrand" focuses on the later years of the monarch's life, depicting his marriage to his sixth and final wife, Katherine Parr. To accurately represent the king's physical state, Law underwent significant weight gain, even indulging in "late-night ice cream" to achieve the desired 28-stone appearance.

Interestingly, Law acknowledged the influence of disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein on his portrayal of Henry VIII. He explained, "I was very aware that Henry symbolizes the downfall of many men who soared through life with great success and got drunk on power, abused it and fell. And so Harvey must have crossed my mind."

This connection stems from Law's previous collaboration with Weinstein on the 2003 film "Cold Mountain", where he starred alongside Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger.
