Hospital fire tragedy: Parents wait for answers as newborns suffer in north India

A tragic fire at a state-run medical facility in north-Indiaʼs Jhansi district left 10 newborns dead and many fighting for their lives. The incident happened at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College Hospital (where oxygen equipment short-circuit caused rapid fire spread in the neo-natal ward)
The hospital staff broke-in to save 44 babies however sixteen remain in critical state. All affected infants – less than 12 months old needed life-support systems to survive

Parents gathered near the building next morning demanding answers; their frustration grew as only seven deceased babies were identified. The remaining three need DNA-tests for identification which adds to families pain
The government stepped-up with support:

* PM office announced near 1900-pound compensation
* Investigation team formed to find exact cause
This isnt first such incident in Indiaʼs healthcare system as just 6 months ago similar tragedy took seven young lives in New-Delhi childcare unit. The countrys hospitals often work with limited staff and safety-protocols
