The British Prime Minister had a key phone-chat with Donald Trump on nov 6th (after Trumps election win) where both talked about making UK-US bonds stronger
A No10 source says the chat was warm: the PM gave Trump a big thumbs-up and mentioned how theyʼd work on stuff like defence trade and other important things together. Both guys agreed that UK-US friendship would stay super-strong; they also chatted about Middle-East stuff and remembered their meet-up from last fall
London will always be pro-women‚ pro-diversity‚ pro-climate and pro-human rights
The situation got more complex when some Labour party folks spoke up. David Lammy (whos still Foreign Secretary til next election) had earlier called Trump some not-so-nice things but keeps his job. Other Labour people like Emily Thornberry and Stella Creasy also said what they think about Trump - mostly not good stuff
- Sadiq Khan showed his different view from London
- Emily Thornberry stuck to her old words about Trump
- Labour got hit with a legal thing cause some helpers worked for Trumps rival
Its worth noting that back in 2016 it took way longer for Trump to call UK leaders - this time its different. The whole thing shows how UK politics is split on this: government tries to be nice while others dont hide their real thoughts
The PMs office also mentioned that both leaders liked their september meet-up a lot; Trump has some close UK connections which they think will help make everything work better in future
