Londonʼs transport system faces big problems as tube drivers plan to stop work (while RMT union just cancelled its strike plans after getting a better deal)
The citys underground network expects major shut-downs on Nov 7th and Nov 12th when Aslef union members walk out; most lines wont run at all. Transport for London warns about super-busy roads and over-crowded alternative routes on these dates
We dont want to go on strike or make travel harder‚ but LU management wont negotiate properly with us
The dispute centers around a 3.8% pay raise offer which would push drivers yearly earnings to 70k pounds. However Aslef members want:
- Shorter work-week hours
- Paid meal breaks
- Same conditions as Elizabeth line drivers
Meanwhile Claire Mann from TfL says their offer is fair and good for everyone. The DLR and London Overground will still run but might get really packed (and some stations could close because of the strike)
TfL suggests checking travel updates before heading out - since any working services will start late and finish early that day. Roads will be extra-busy too so its best to plan ahead
