The capitalʼs underground network will see major disruptions starting next week when both RMT and Aslef unions begin their co-ordinated strike actions. The walkouts which start from Nov-1st will affect millions of daily commuters
Different worker groups plan various strike dates: engineering staff starts first (Nov-1st to 2nd)‚ followed by control-center workers (Nov-3rd to 4th); while the biggest impact comes from driver strikes on Nov-5th‚ 7th and 12th
Our members dont want to strike but LU management wont negotiate properly with us
Transport for London (TfL) cant yet confirm which lines will run during strikes but expects minimal-to-no service on driver strike days. Some stations might close when station-staff joins the walkouts
The reasons for strikes include:
- Aslef rejected a 3.8% pay-rise offer
- RMT disputes collective bargaining rights
- Working hours disagreements
- Meal break compensation issues
TfL made a new offer with 4.6% average pay-rise but unions say its not enough. Mick Lynch from RMT says the deal threatens workers rights and excludes many staff from pay negotiations - while TfL claims its proposal is fair and budget-friendly
