The next presidential vote happens on nov 5th (just around election-day tuesday) with the winner moving into the white-house by jan 20th next year. Its not just about picking a president - voters will choose congress-people too

The voting process is pretty straight-forward: most folks head to their local polling spots (though lots send mail-in ballots beforehand). Poll closing times vary by state but usually wrap-up around 7pm local-time - east coast numbers start coming in while hawaii and alaska are still voting
Getting final results takes time these days; the last race took about 4 days to call. Back in 2016 things wrapped up next morning but now with more mail-voting its different - though states usually project winners way before counting every last vote. The whole thing wont be totally done til months later but nobody really waits that long to know who won
