TV chef faces serious workplace claims: What happened behind MasterChef cameras
Popular cooking show host **Gregg Wallace** faces multiple workplace behavior accusations spanning almost two decades. External investigation starts as presenter steps away from his TV duties
TV personality Gregg Wallace faces serious claims about his on-set conduct‚ which made staff feel un-comfortable during his long TV career (spanning more than 17 years)
The BBC got info from 13 people who worked with Wallace on different shows: they talked about un-wanted comments and weird behavior. In response Wallace made a social-media post saying these claims came from “middle-class women of a certain age“ from Celebrity MasterChef
Can you imagine how many women female contestants on MasterChef have made sexual remarks or innuendo
A letter sent to BBC around 2 years ago described some not-ok stuff like:
- Asking female staff for personal phone numbers
- Making crude comments to production team members
- Being topless around workers
- Creating general un-ease among staff
Banijay UK - the company that makes MasterChef appointed outside lawyers to check everything out. Wallace agreed to step back from the show while they look into it; the production company says they dont allow bad behavior on their shows
The situation got worse when Channel 5 staff brought up similar issues about Wallaces Big Weekends show. After all this came out an autism charity dropped him as their face - they had picked him cause of his work with autistic kids
Lawyers speaking for Wallace say these claims arent true but Banijay UK wants to do a full check of whats going on - they picked law firm Lewis Silkin to dig deeper into these old claims
