Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the environmental lawyer and former presidential candidate, has become the center of a controversy involving an alleged affair with political reporter Olivia Nuzzi. Nuzzi, a respected Washington correspondent for New York Magazine, acknowledged on September 20, 2024, that "the nature of some communications between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal." This admission came nearly a year after she penned a comprehensive profile on Kennedy in November 2023, during his independent presidential campaign.

The affair allegedly began in early 2024, following Nuzzi's article. At the time, both parties were in committed relationships – Nuzzi was engaged, and Kennedy was married to actress Cheryl Hines, known for her role in "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

A spokesperson for Kennedy refuted claims of a relationship, stating, "Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece." This "hit piece" involved Nuzzi visiting Kennedy's $6.6 million mansion in Brentwood, California, and accompanying him on a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains.

The revelation has led to scrutiny of Nuzzi's reporting on the 2024 presidential race. In a March 2024 interview with The New York Times, she suggested that political commentators might be "purposefully ignoring" the fact that the presidential election was a "three-man race," highlighting Kennedy's competitive polling among young voters.

New York Magazine has placed Nuzzi on leave but stated they found "no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias" in her reporting. However, the incident has reignited discussions about journalistic ethics and the importance of disclosing potential conflicts of interest.

"The relationship should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologise to those I've disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York."

This scandal adds to Kennedy's history of personal controversies. In previously revealed diary entries, he acknowledged "numerous infidelities" in a past marriage, attributing them to his "lust demons."
