Putin changes Russia's nuclear rules after Ukraine gets new missiles
Russia makes it easier to use nuclear weapons against countries that attack with regular missiles. The change comes right after Ukraine got permission to use long-range US weapons
On nov 19th Vladimir Putin signed new rules that let Russia use its nuclear weapons if someone hits it with regular missiles (which is much different from old rules that needed bigger threats)
The timing isnt random: Ukraine just got ok from US to use their long-range missiles. British and French allies also said yes to their missile use; Storm Shadow missiles with 160-mile reach have been helping Ukraine since last yr
Dmitry Medvedev – who helps run Russias Security Council – made things super-clear:
Russia could retaliate with weapons of mass destruction against Kyiv and key Nato facilities wherever theyʼre located; That means World War III
The same day Putin signed these rules Ukraine used its first US-made Atacms to hit a place about 100 miles inside Russia where North-Korean stuff was stored. Russian defense folks say they stopped 5 of 6 missiles but some parts hit their base in Bryansk area
Experts think these new rules are made just for Ukraine and its friends: the old rules said nuclear weapons were for when Russia might stop existing – now its for when someone hits Russian land. At the same-time Russia is putting up mobile nuclear bunkers (KUB-M shelters) that can fit 54 people and protect from nuclear blast light
