Pub owners face drunk couple's rage after Christmas party drink refusal
A festive celebration at a Hampshire pub turned hostile when a couple got denied more drinks. The incident led to physical confrontation and racial slurs‚ with both sides now meeting in court
Last winter a festive get-together at The New Inn (Heckfield) turned into a mess when Nathan Sayer and his wife Catharine lost their cool after being cut off from drinks. The couple who came with their horse-riding club started throwing food around - management didnt make much fuss about it
During closing hours Nathan age 49 forgot his scarf and came back: his attempt to order more drinks failed. He then made rude comments about the place which made owner Laura Faulkner ask them to leave‚ The situation got worse - fast
Nathan picked on a tanned staff member thinking he was Muslim (the guy just got back from down-under) making offensive remarks like calling him “Mustafa“ and talking about ham; while Catharine age 53 got physical with Mrs Faulkner grabbing her shirt so hard it left marks. The pubʼs CCTV showed Catharine hitting Mr Faulkner on his head - he had to put Nathan in a headlock after he pushed a female worker
Both are facing charges in Basingstoke court for:
* harassment with religious bias
* physical assault
* threatening behavior
The defendants say its self-defense but prosecutor Ryan Seneviratne doesnt buy it. The case will wrap up around christmas time
