Prince William returns to Africa: Royal's emotional journey meets climate innovation

Prince William is set to make his way to Cape Town on 11/04/24 for a meaningful four-day visit (his first African journey since visiting Namibia about 6 years ago)

The continent holds deep meaning for the future king — its where he found peace after his mothers passing and where he asked Kate Middleton to marry him during a Kenya safari: “Africa has always been my second home; I feel at-peace when Im here“

The trip focuses on the fourth Earthshot Prize ceremony which showcases eco-friendly solutions. The event takes place in a custom-built eco-dome thats twice the size of a rugby field and runs on wind-power from nearby farms

Africa has always held a special place in my heart – as somewhere I found comfort as a teenager where I proposed to my wife and most recently as the founding inspiration behind the Earthshot Prize

Prince William stated

Among the prize contestants are several ground-breaking African projects:
* A Kenyan solar-power system for off-grid homes
* A Ghana-based waste recycling program
* Kenyan solar-powered cooling units for farmers

The ceremony features a unique performance by Lebo M singing “Circle of Life“ on Table Mountain — its the first-ever recording at this landmark spot. The event includes a green-carpet showcase highlighting sustainable African fashion designs

The last time Prince William visited South Africa was during a joint tour with Prince Harry in 2010 which now seems like a different era — before marriages kids and family complications changed their paths However their shared love for African conservation remains unchanged
