Inside Truth Social: How Trump built his own internet kingdom worth billions
After getting kicked-off Twitter about 4 years ago Trump made his own social-media platform. Now with recent election success Truth Social became a multi-billion business despite having few users
After getting kicked off mainstream social-media in early-2021 Donald Trump didnt stay quiet for long. He built Truth Social - his personal digital megaphone thats now worth billions despite having way less users than X (formerly Twitter)
The platforms daily routine shows how Trump runs his online kingdom: his trusted aide (nicknamed the human-printer) types up his thoughts while he watches TV and drinks coca-cola. Hereʼs how it works:
- Posts get called “truths“ instead of tweets
- Platform copies Xʼs main features
- First account suggested is always Trump
- MAGA supporters fill most popular accounts list
Too many ʼThank yousʼ‚ too rapidly said‚ whatʼs going on with her?
Truth Socialʼs business side is quite interesting - its parent company TMTG trades under symbol DJT and its worth $6.3bn which is close to Xʼs private value. Devin Nunes runs the company but Trump owns 52.9% of shares making him worth $3.5bn on paper
The platform only made $1.01m last quarter (all from ads) and lost $19.2m; however it has $673m in cash so its not going broke anytime soon. With just 424k monthly users compared to Xʼs 182m its clear that Truth Social is more about Trump than being a real social-media competitor
Recent rumors about Trump selling his shares made him angry - he called for investigations into people spreading such info. Some people think X and Truth Social might join forces but thats just talk for now
