German politician shot during early-morning police raid in Saxony

A dramatic incident happened yesterday when Kurt Hättasch‚ an Alternative for Germany (AfD) town-councilor got shot in his jaw during a police raid in Grimma. The local politician (who pointed a gun at officers) needed surgery after law-enforcement fired warning shots; his condition is stable

Eight people including Hättasch were arrested in connection with a neo-nazi group called “Saxonian Separatists“; which started its activities about 4 years ago. The group made preparations for what they called “Day X“ — a time when they expected society to break down

The suspects gathered military-style gear and did combat practice while waiting for their chance to grab power in east-german regions. Their plan included:

  • Getting combat helmets and protection gear
  • Collecting gas-masks and camo suits
  • Training with weapons
  • Setting up storage for equipment

Two more AfD party members (not elected officials) might be linked to this group according to Der Spiegel magazine; but the partys local branch in Saxony quickly made a statement: “We dont know anything about this besides whats in news reports; our organization supports democratic values‚“ said Andreas Harlass their spokesman

German police found several such groups lately — some had weird ideas about bringing back kings rule. In one case; an old lady wanted to kidnap a minister and attack power lines‚ while in another a noble-man (who liked conspiracy stories) tried to take over parliament building
