BT consumer chief exits as telecom giant plans major cost reductions
BTʼs consumer division head **Marc Allera** leaves after missing top position last year. His departure comes as new CEO **Allison Kirkby** implements cost-saving plans and company restructuring
Marc Allera‚ BTʼs consumer division boss plans to leave his role after seven years — a move that follows last summers appointment of Allison Kirkby as the companys new CEO
The 52-year old executive who joined through BTʼs £12.5bn EE deal back in 2015‚ will hand over to Claire Gillies (an experienced Bell Canada exec) around march next year. During his time‚ Allera managed almost £10bn in yearly revenue and made the switch to EE as main brand; he also fixed customer-service issues
BTʼs new leadership under Kirkby works with fresh investor Sunil Bharti Mittal to cut costs and make things simpler: they might sell the Global Services unit. The company already changed its sports channel to TNT Sports (as part of Warner Bros Discovery deal) and Allera helps sell BTʼs remaining part
Industry shake-ups could mean new jobs for Allera — Vodafone UK and Three are joining forces while Virgin Media O2 splits its business. Heʼs already chairman at RuneScape maker Jagex (owned by CVC Capital Partners) who might buy ITV
