Analysis reveals substantial donations to Cabinet members, with Foreign Secretary **David Lammy** receiving the most. Scrutiny intensifies over political gifts and their potential influence on MPs' actions.

An analysis of the UK Cabinet's financial disclosures has revealed that its members have accepted more than £800,000 in donations and gifts since the beginning of 2024. This information, derived from the Register of Members' Financial Interests, sheds light on the extent of financial support received by top government officials.

David Lammy, the Foreign Secretary, emerged as the leading recipient, having accepted over £150,000 in donations and gifts. His benefits included £2,500 worth of tickets to a Tottenham Hotspur match with hospitality box access. The largest contribution to Lammy came from Labour Together, a think tank associated with the current government, which provided £40,440 for research and writing services.

Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, followed closely with £117,000 in donations and gifts. His declarations included four tickets to Taylor Swift's concert at Wembley Stadium, valued at £1,160. Streeting's most substantial donation, totaling £48,000, came from OPD Group Ltd, a company led by Peter Hearn, a prominent Labour Party donor.

The analysis also revealed that Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister, received £104,000 in gifts and donations, including £2,230 for clothing from ME+EM, a British luxury fashion brand.

These disclosures have intensified scrutiny over political donations, particularly following a controversy involving Prime Minister Keir Starmer and clothing donations from Lord Alli. In response, Starmer pledged to cease accepting clothing donations, a commitment echoed by Rayner and Rachel Reeves.

Other notable gifts to Cabinet members included concert tickets for various artists such as Kylie Minogue and Bruce Springsteen. The Football Association emerged as a significant provider of gifts, including all the declared Taylor Swift concert tickets.

"This is what hypocrisy looks like – and most of us have been fighting the 'they're all the same' rhetoric for our whole careers. Keir's double standards just prove it's entirely accurate."

Labour MP's statement on donation practices

The revelations have sparked calls from within the Labour Party for Starmer to halt the acceptance of all "freebies." Some MPs expressed concern that such gifts could be perceived negatively by the public, who "don't have any gifts adorned on them."

As the debate over political donations continues, it remains to be seen how the government will address these concerns and potentially reform its practices to maintain public trust.
