Regular customer gets paid after finding weird Mars bar manufacturing mistake

A chocolate-lover spotted something odd about his Mars bar - it was missing its famous top pattern. The company paid him back and explained how this rare mistake happened at their factory

In a sweet-and-simple turn of events Harry Seager found himself in an unexpected situation when he bought a Mars bar at a service station (while heading to a Birmingham car show)

His chocolate bar looked different than usual - the top part was completely smooth with no wavy pattern which has been part of Mars bars since they started making them in Slough back in 32

The story got attention when Seager posted it on social media; specifically the Dull Mens Facebook page where ex-factory workers shared some behind-the-scenes info about how Mars bars get their signature look: through a special machine called an enrober that works like a chocolate-waterfall

The only reason I emailed them was because I was interested in what might have caused it to happen

Harry Seager explained to BBC

Mars Wrigley UK gave him a £2 voucher and said sorry; though Seager mentioned they didnt really answer his main question about how it happened. Still he was happy about getting two free chocolate bars

The company explained that with 2‚5 million bars made each day some mistakes can happen but these smooth-top bars are super-rare: the famous swirl isnt going anywhere. They said its just one of those things that sometimes slip through their quality-control process
