Michelle Obama stated, "America, hope is making a comeback," following Harris' formal acceptance of the nomination. She described the vice president as "more than ready for this moment" and "one of the most qualified people ever to seek" the presidency.
Addressing the significance of potentially electing the first woman of color as Commander-in-Chief, Obama urged Democrats not to "indulge our anxieties" about America's readiness for such a milestone. She emphasized the importance of active support for Harris' campaign.
The former First Lady also criticized Donald Trump, though rarely mentioning him by name. She referenced his past attempts to "distort" the truth and make people fear the Obamas, describing it as a "limited and narrow view of the world."
"Who's going to tell him that the job he's currently seeking might just be one of those 'black jobs'?"
Obama warned of the potential consequences of a second Trump term, including threats to healthcare and personal freedoms. She urged supporters not to be complacent, stating, "We cannot afford for anyone to sit on their hands and wait to be called upon."
The convention also featured speeches from Barack Obama, who remains popular seven years after leaving office, and Doug Emhoff, who could become the first Second Gentleman in U.S. history. Emhoff described Harris as a "joyful warrior" but "tough as nails."
With the election just two and a half months away, polls show Harris holding a narrow lead over Trump in several swing states. The Democratic Party, symbolized by a donkey, is rallying behind its new ticket of Harris and her running mate, hoping to secure victory in the Electoral College system that determines the U.S. presidency.
